Easy Guide to Internet Poker

The Internet is a great place to play poker. If you are not near a casino and don't have enough people to get up a regular home game, the Internet is the perfect answer. There's always a game to be had on the Internet, whether you're in the mood to play early in the morning, late at night, or anytime in between. If you've never played Internet poker before though, it may seem a bit intimidating. Here's an easy guide to getting started with Internet Poker.

Step One: Find a Site

There are dozens of great sites on the Internet for playing online poker, and you aren't limited to playing on only one. You'll have to find one to start with, but that's not hard. Look in poker magazines, on poker television shows, and poker information websites. They are all likely to contain many advertisements for various online poker sites. If you're not sure which one to start with, a quick web search for online poker room reviews will help you find an easy to understand breakdown of the various sites and what they have to offer.

Step Two: Download the Software

Although some sites allow you to play without downloading software, most of the time you will be downloading poker software onto your computer. The software does not take up too much space and is very easy to use. Just click the download button on the website and most sites will immediately start your download. Once the download is complete, click the icon for the site which will appear on your desktop.

Step Three: Register

The first time you log on to the site, you will be asked some personal information questions such as the handle you wish to be known by on the site, a password, your name, address and phone number. Enter the information in all the fields as requested.

Step Four: Load your Account

Unless you're only going to be using the free section of the site, you're going to need to load money into your account. It's very important that you make sure you have a sign-up bonus code. These codes can be found in poker magazines, on poker websites, and basically anywhere you can find out about online poker. They can often result in the site matching the funds that you deposit, up to 100% or more, so they are definitely worth hunting down. The cashier page will delineate all of your various account loading options, which usually include wire transfer, direct bank account link, or third party intermediary site.

Step Five: Start Playing!

Now you're ready to get started. The main menu will have tabs for all of the different games and limits. Click the tab for your favorite game and limit, and look for an open table. When you find one, click on the "seat open" button and you will be placed in your seat at the table. Out come the cards, and the rest is up to you!
