Advanced Poker Rules

There are fixed poker rules, but seasoned poker players don't necessarily follow them. Like the best generals and the brightest artists, will consistently succeed in the game without being mastered by rules. If you're going to ask the most invariable rule in poker, seasoned players would only tell you two things: Win all money and no cheating.

But pros can make use of a poker rule so that he can provide equitable solutions when other players encounter problems in their games. The poker rule would help him because, first, it decreases arguments over a rule problem. Second, it increases players' acceptance to play complex games and other game modifications. Third, knowledge of a poker rule increases the pros control over the game. Fourth, this improves his image as someone who can be fairly and desirably be played with. Fifth, this increases his chance to be invited over to other poker games. Sixth, it automatically elevates him in a position over other players as being the arbiter and judge of all poker problems. And lastly, poker rules give him a good chance to control the governing house rules.

But a pro in a private game doesn't adhere strictly to the fixed poker rules. Besides, unlike other games, poker is anything but a rigid game. If you follow fixed poker rules or rules published by Hoyle by the book, then you wouldn't be able to interpret situations and consistently resolve problems arising from the game, thereby, reducing your chance to gain control over the casinos rules.

Modifying Rules

There are many books that published poker rules but none of them covers situations in games involving twists, split pots and other complex modified games. To have an idea in such events, you should formulate new rules yourself, or rather, make flexible guidelines than rules. Such guidelines may at first cost you money but in the long run, this would benefit you financially by giving you the control of the rules.

Inequitable Rules

When your opponents trusts you as being a good arbiter, you may help out perennial loser using a discriminatory rule interpretation to prevent him from walking away from the game, which is beneficial to everyone. Then again, you may interpret and apply a discriminatory rule to a loser only when the loser's financial value offsets the financial value of construing all rules equitably and consistently.

House Rules

House rules basically determine the pace and the stakes of the game. They also concern betting and playing procedure. But it is also commonly mistaken as poker rules. Which is why if a good player knows much about poker rules, his opponents also let him have a significant influence over the house rules. House rules that can be manipulated by a pro concerns antes and stakes, number of games permitted, rules of betting and raising, etc. But house and poker rules are never written or fixed, so that the pro can use it flexibly to his advantage. Whether it's landbased or online gambling, it's better to stick to the rules and strategy in order to improve your odds.
